Kris Johnson | Executive Director

Mrs. Kris Johnson is the Executive Director of International Charter School of Arizona. Mrs. Johnson began in charter schools in one of the original schools in 1995. After teaching high school for eight years she moved in to administration nine years ago as both a Director of Curriculum and Instruction and as a Principal. She is an aumni of both Arizona State and Northern Arizona.

As a career student she continues to learn every day keeping current on all areas that will positively impact International Charter School of Arizona including the International Baccalaureate. Mrs. Johnson has experience in the study of international education.

She has traveled to study schools in Australia, U.A.E, Egypt and China. She has also worked for the last four years with over 75 International students from all over the world including Serbia, Montenegro, China, France, Germany, Estonia, and many others. Mrs. Johnson is excited to bring to ICSA all that she has learned in schools and from students around the world

Mrs. Johnson has five boys; 23 years old, 22 years old, 20 years old and twin 11 year olds. She is married to an Engineer with the Phoenix Fire Department. In Mrs. Johnson’s spare time she works as an advocate for students with Special Needs. She belongs to the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority that promotes excellence in education as well as world understanding. Mrs. Johnson is excited to begin school every day and looks forward to every new challenge. This school year is off to a great start.

Denise Graff | Office Manager

Denise Graff is a recent addition to ICSA and is the new Office Manager. Mrs. Graff has worked in education for 10 years in the areas of administration, compliance, accounting, and human resources. Mrs. Graff’s experience and expertise with state requirements ensures that ICSA students are well cared for. She has had extensive training in the areas of school finance, school compliance, student management, and federal programs. Mrs. Graff has recently spent time doing consulting for various schools throughout the valley ensuring that they are in compliance with all laws and regulations.

Mrs. Graff is originally from Arizona and is the proud grandmother to many grandchildren. She enjoys raising dogs and learning new things. Mrs. Graff and her husband have a beautiful cabin north of Payson and spend as much time there as possible

Michelle Shelby | Principal

Michelle Shelby is a recent addition to ICSA and is the new IB Coordinator/Guidance Counselor. Mrs. Shelby has over five years experience in the behavioral health field. She has worked in administration as an academic advisor and as a hip hop team coordinator for grades 6-12 for the last four years. Mrs. Shelby received her Associates degree from Chandler Gilbert Community College, Bachelors degree from Arizona State University and has a Masters degree in Educational Counseling from the University of Phoenix.

Mrs. Shelby is originally from Jefferson City, Missouri and has three children, one stepson, nine grandchildren and two miniature dachshunds mixed with terrier. She is married to a Behavioral Health Technician/Mentor who is currently seeking his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She also enjoys walking, reading, dancing, laughing and traveling.

Mrs. Shelby continues to strive to make a positive difference in the lives of every student and she believes in her motto which is “Make It Happen.” She is a student advocate and encourages students to have the mindset to achieve greatness. She will assist your student with making and obtaining their academic and personal goals. Mrs. Shelby is very excited to begin the school year and is looking forward to meeting every parent and student!
